David Dunaief, MD

David Dunaief, M.D. is an internist specializing in integrative medicine. His focus is on the reversal, prevention and treatment of chronic diseases through a nutrient-dense approach, fitness and stress management.

He regularly presents at corporations, academic centers, wellness expos, and scientific meetings on topics pertaining to integrative/lifestyle medicine.

Dr. Dunaief graduated from Stony Brook University Medical School in New York and completed an internal medicine residency at Mercy Medical Center/University of Maryland in Baltimore.

He then completed a three-year fellowship with Joel Fuhrman, M.D., author of the New York Times bestseller Eat to Live. Dr. Dunaief was first author of a study with Dr. Fuhrman on the impacts of a high nutrient density diet on type 2 diabetes, published in the August 2012 issue of the Open Journal of Preventive Medicine, and he co-authored a book chapter in The Handbook of Nutrition, Diet and the Eye for Elsevier Academic Press, published in 2014. He is an active researcher on dietary impacts on health, with several additional published studies.

Prior to becoming a physician, he worked in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. He was a biotech analyst on Wall Street. He also worked as a pharmaceutical sales representative, teaching physicians about several common therapies and educating them on a new drug launch. He has had a lifelong passion for nutrition and fitness, and he credits his self-designed rehabilitation program with helping him overcome the limitations of cerebral palsy.

Dr. Dunaief graduated with high honors from Colgate University, where he received his B.A. in biology and religion. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, and The Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine. He also serves as a Medical Advisor to Plant Powered Metro New York, a non-profit that empowers people to find better health and overcome chronic disease through whole food, plant-based nutrition.

Dr. Dunaief has been married to his lovely wife, Laura, since 2000. He resides in Brooklyn and E. Setauket, NY and enjoys spending time hiking and traveling.
